One of the best things about being a part of the wedding industry is witnessing trends bloom and fade. Nicole McDonald, CBA member, of Down the Well Designs doesn’t just witness trends, she creates them.
Turning upcycling and family heirlooms into an art, Nicole creates one-of-a-kind fashion pieces, accessories, jewelry, and bouquets so brides and grooms can create their own wedding trends. We love how intricately and gorgeously Nicole incorporates couples’ personalities with modern trends, so we checked in with her to see what wedding elements she thinks will really bloom this year.
New for 2018, in Nicole McDonald’s opinion:
Your old favourites!
I see this year’s trends having more vintage influences, but not just rustic additions. Brides and grooms will be adding in personal touches like never before; the passions that drive them; little nods to their favourite literary or movie characters, hobbies or lifestyles. Brides and bridesmaids will be seen in more eclectic mixes; sequins mixed with traditional tops or bottoms, tulle skirts with denim jackets and lots of fur (faux and vintage).
Bouquets for the brides will continue to have that ‘just picked’ feel, however I think alternatives for the bridesmaids will be come more popular, with flower crowns and oversized composite corsages stepping on to the stage. These can really help stretch your floral budget without compromising in style.
Softer romantic shades and metallics are going to steal attention.
Icy blues, rose golds, mossy greens, violets and decadent plums are going to be walking the wedding aisles. I see 2018 as a year when couples will be making their weddings a celebration of themselves; of shared interests, and what really makes them click as a couple.
