In October Tara Whittaker photographed Kellie and Ryan’s classic downtown wedding. We loved everything from the timeless elegance to the lighthearted stroll they took down Steven Avenue and we couldn’t wait to share every beautiful detail with you. Kelly and Ryan knew that they didn’t want to spend months on Pinterest trying to recreate someone else’s wedding so they decided to do things their way and we think everything turned out beautifully!
A note from the groom:
A big part of what made our day so special and what Kellie and I discussed from the beginning is that we wanted our wedding to be intimate and a celebration. We started with that objective, we knew that we didn’t want to spend our summer Pinteresting centre pieces or hanging balloons the night before; it’s not our style. So to find the right venues, vendors and everything for the day we researched (actually Kellie researched) because there are so many good choices in Calgary and we wanted to find the right fit, we made time to spend in each place; we had a lot of good meals in the planning stage of our wedding lol. After researching the final choice was easy, it was a eureka moment.
What’s nice about our day and what i appreciate is how timeless everything was. Central United Church is a beautiful historic building that we’ll be able to visit when we’re old and grey; it’s not going anywhere. The Saltlik and the Hyatt are established business’, we’ll be able to enjoy future anniversaries at these locations and remember the day we were Wed, it’s these details that provide memories for a lifetime.
The day was such a blur for me; honestly i remember every detail but it went by so fast. If a couple planning their wedding and is looking for advice, I’m sure their getting tonnes of it but my suggestion is to just do it. It’s going to be crazy, it’s going to be fun, it’s romantic, it’s a showcase – have fun and be with your spouse. What i remember the most from our wedding is my bride and i at the front of the church. I didn’t know anyone else was there, for all i knew it was just her and I, and we were together. It was surreal.
