Dear Calgary Brides,
I would like to use this first post to tell you a little about myself. This year has been full of amazing moments for me – and if you are reading this because you are also planning a wedding – I am sure it has been pretty fantastic for you too.
This past May my boyfriend Derek got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. I am not going to lie, I had been waiting for it for a few months and my family and friends were joking that it would be nearly impossible for him to surprise me, since it was all I could talk about.
I remember my brother saying that Derek would have to ask me while we were taking out the garbage or mowing the lawn, because if he did anything even remotely romantic I would instantly be thinking proposal. So that’s what he did, and thankfully it turned out to be much more romantic than trash or lawn mowing.
On the long weekend we went home to the small town of Smithers, British Columbia, where we both grew up. The two of us got up for an early morning run and were headed towards my grandparent’s house, when Derek suggested we take a detour. Not wanting to run an inch further than absolutely necessary I was going to protest, but decided to go along with it.
We ended up running on the trail behind the hotel where we had met at a friends wedding two years earlier. Derek grabbed my arm to stop me and pulled me in for a kiss. I remember thinking okay this is weird, and when I turned around to keep running he grabbed my arm again. Next thing I knew he was down on one knee untying a gorgeous ring from the cord of his headphones, which he pulled from under his shirt. At this point I don’t have to tell you I was surprised – I mean who proposes on a morning run?
His hands were shaking, I was crying, he said some beautiful words, and, of course, I said yes. I bet you’re wondering how on earth I continued to run after such an experience. I’m still not really sure.
We’ve been engaged for nearly three months now and have set our wedding date for July 5, 2014. I am so excited to have this opportunity to share my tips and experiences and I hope that my insight, along with the amazing vendors featured on this website, will help to make the planning process a little easier on you.
Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you will check back next week for some tips on where to begin when planning your wedding.
